The new Temple Israel of Washington Heights, New York, was dedicated Sunday night. The structure was just completed at a cost of $400,000. The congregation was organized eleven years ago and formerly occupied quarters at 181st Street and St. Nicholas Avenue.
Rabbi Mitchell S. Fisher, rabbi of the synagogue, made the dedicatory address. Other speakers were Jonah J. Goldstein, Rabbi Jonah B. Wise of the Central Synagogue; Rabbi Edward Lissman of the Riverside Synagogue; the Dr. Elias L. Solomon, Honorary President of the United Synagogue of America, and Congressman Royal H. Weller.
The Connecticut Zionist State Conference, held in Meriden on Sunday, proclaimed May as Zionist Organization Month. Dr. Louis Goldberg, Regional Director, reported that Connecticut has thus far raised $110,000 in the United Palestine Appeal this year. Rabbi Philip First and Samuel Umansky of Meriden, Charles Rosengarten, and Sam Hennes of Waterbury and Isaac Carmel of New York, addressed the conference.
