The first volume of the German edition of the Encyclopedia Judaica, which has been in preparation for several years, has just been issued here by the publishing house Eshkol. The preparatory work was started about four years ago under the direction of the founders of the Eshkol, Dr. Nahum Goldmann and Dr. Jacob Klatzkin.
The Encyclopedia is planned to run to fifteen volumes of 640 pages each. The first volume which has now appeared goes to Akademien. The second volume is to appear in the early part of the present year.
The German edition will be followed by a Hebrew and later by an English edition.
Committees of distinguished Jews were formed in Germany, France, England, United States, Switzerland, Czecho-Slovakia and Holland to assist in the publication of the Encyclopedia.
The editorial committee consisting of sixteen scholars, includes: Dr. Jacob Klatzkin and Professor Dr. Ismar Elbogen, the editors-in-chief, Chief Rabbi Dr. H. Brody, Prague, Chief Rabbi Dr. M. Ehrenpreis, Stockholm, Rabbi Dr. I. Freimann, Posen, Dr. Nahum Goldmann, Berlin, Professor M. Guttmann, Breslau, Rabbi Dr. B. Jacob, Dortmund, Professor I. Markon, Berlin, Dr. M. Soloweitschik, Berlin, Dr. H. Torczyner, Berlin, Professor G. Weil, Berlin, and Dr. M. Wischnitzer, Berlin.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
