A cantors’ registry with the function recommending cantors to congregation will be created at the forthcoming convention of the United Synagogue America which will take place in Chicago from April 29 to May 1.

The Jewish Ministers-Cantors Association, the Modern Cantors Association and the United Synagogue are to combine in an effort to eliminate the present conditions under which, it is stated the position of the cantors has been degraded.

The registry is to insist that on those cantors who are religiously, eth? cally, culturally and musically qualified are to be engaged by congregations o? permitted to officiate at religious services. This work is to be conducted on a nation-wide scale. Examining committees are to be set up to pass on the qualifiactions of applicants to the registry. The cantors registry is to function under the direction of a committee composed of representatives of the three bodies.
