Sholom Asch Says Splendid Achievements of Jews in Crimea Due to Soviet and Agrojoint (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

Russian Jews owe the splendid achievement of Jewish colonization in the Crimea to the Agrojoint and the Soviet Government, declared Sholom Asch. American Jewish novelist. in an interview with the representative of the Jewish Telegraphie Agency, following his return from Russia and a tour of the Jewish colonies.

The Russian Jews, especially the youth, are longing for land work, he stated. Bureya offers splendid prospects for rice planting and forestry.

Anti-Semitism is not rooted among the workers and the peasants and is to be found only among the dissatis fied intelligentsia. The Soviet Government is fighting vigorously against anti-Semitism.

Referring to the incident at the dinner giving him in Moscow, Mr. Aschdeclared that his encounter with Litvakov, editor of the “Emes” was purelj personal. “The Ozet and the Communist party apologized to me for his facelessness and Replied that I was sorry for Litvakov’s provocation. I never apologized to Lityakov, as was reported.

“The Jewish writers in Russia fear Litvakov, but the Russian writers do not and they greeted me warmly. I never said I am against a class struggle, but against a class tendency in literature,” he stated.

Mr. Asch said he will go to London where he will present his impressions on the Russian colonies to Felix M. Warburg and Louis Marshall.
