Czonstochowa stronghold of Catholic sentiment in the Republic of Poland is the first city in the modern Republic to enact a prohibition against schechita the Jewish method of slaughtering animals.

The City Council today adopted a resolution by a majority vote to prohibit the schechita. The Jewish members protested.
