A controversy over the title of Chief Rabbi for South Africa is now threatening, it was disclosed at the annual general meeting of the local Hebrew Congregation.

Speakers at the meeting protested strongly against what they termed “assumption and continued use” of the title Chief Rabbi by Dr. Judah Leo Landau of Johannesburg. It was stated that the matter is likely to arouse disunion between two chief communities of South Africa.
