Directors of the Judea Industrial Corporation, a $1,000,000 concern organized on the initiative of the Order Sons of Zion for financing industrial enterprises in Palestine, are charged with fraud and conspiracy in a complaint filed in Supreme Court Friday by Alex Freilich, named as a stockholder, through his attorney, Samuel L. Silverman. The complaint charges the directors with using the corporation for their own gain, and demands an accounting.
Jacob S. Strahl, president of the corporation, and named as a defendant, said in an answer to the complaint, also on file in the County Clerk’s office, that the name of Alex Freilich is to his knowledge fictitious. The answer makes the charge that the entire proceeding is instigated by disgruntled employes, who own twenty-four shares of stock out of a total of 40,000 issued by the company.
The complaint alleges the directors “Saddled” the accounts of the corporation on a subsidiary corporation in Palestine, so that misappropriations could not be detected. It charges Samuel Mason, managing director of the corporation, with having inflated the value of the corporation’s stock so as to make larger commissions from its sale. Free gifts of stock, it is charged, were made to Jacob Ish-Kishor, secretary, and to Judge Strahl. Besides Judge Strahl, Mr. Ish-Kishor and Mr. Mason, the defendants are Max Fenwick, vice-president, and Leopold Kehlman, treasurer.
April 27th will mark the eightieth anniversary of the founding of Temple Israel of Lafayette. Indiana of which Rabbi Bernard J. Bamberger is the rabbi. A public seder will be held on Thursday night; April 25th as part of the anniversary celebration. Rabbi Bamberger has accepted a call to Temple Beth Emeth of Albany, N. Y., and will leave at the close of the year.
