The establishment of a Palestine Emergency Fund, with which to succor Jews stricken in Palestine, and the appointment of a Committee on Public Information to give the Jewish side of the outrages that have taken place in the Holy Land during the past week were the two principal decisions made by the Administrative Committee of the Zionist Organization of America at a meeting held Monday afternoon at the Zionist offices, 111 Fifth Avenue.
David A. Brown was appointed Chairman of the Palestine Emergency Fund, which will direct its appeal for emergency funds to all elements of the population. Emanuel Neumann was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Public Information, which immediately after the Administrative Committee meeting issued a statement in regard to the incidents that have taken place in Palestine during the past few days.
It was also decided at the meeting to call a mass meeting on Thursday night, August 29, at Mecca Temple, to which all Jewish organizations in the city are invited. In addition to Mr. Neumann, the committee consists of Dr. Abraham Coralnik and Bernard A. Rosenblatt, with others to be added.
In his appeal for funds, Mr. Brown said: “In accepting the Chairmanship of the Palestine Emergency Fund I did so not only because of the press stories of the horribly tragic conditions in Palestine, but because of the intimate cables regarding the acute situation over there which have made clear the manner in which our people are being butchered, and which clearly reveal their economic condition. This emergency fund is not only to be raised from Jews but from everyone who believes in justice and is opposed to the barbaric acts of the Arabs. There should be an outpouring for this Emergency Fund immediately, so that the means to provide for the families of those who have been murdered and those who have been badly injured, in addition to the large number who are suffering from the chaotic conditions brought about by the attack of the Arabs will be available at once. Characterizing the British Administration in Palestine as vaccilating, weak and indecisive, Emanuel Neumann described the attitude of the Zionist Organization of America, in a special statement issued.
AMERICAN JEWISH CONGRESS SENDS DELEGATION TO WASHINGTON
Resolutions protesting the anti-Jewish excesses in Palestine were adopted at a meeting Monday of the Administrative Committee of the American Jewish Congress, representing 23 affiliated national Jewish organizations.
A delegation, headed by Bernard S. Deutsch, president of the American Jewish Congress, left last night for Washington to present resolutions to the British Ambassador as well as to Secretary of State Stimson.
