Dr. A. Bilman, known throughout Latvia as practically the only non-Jew in the country able to speak, read and write Yiddish, has been appointed Latvian consul-general in New York. Up to the present Dr. Bilman has been press attache in the foreign ministry. He is a great friend of Latvian Jewry, having assisted them on various occasions by intervening on their behalf with the government. He has numerous Jewish friends in America which he visited last year.
