Captain Pontromoli, who is a close relative of Professor Aldo Pontromoli, who was lost on the “Italia” Polar Expedition under General Nobile, has been appointed an Admiral of the Italian Fleet. Professor Aldo Pontromoli was a grandson of the Italian ex-Premier, the late Luigi Luzzatti, the “Grand Old Man of Italian Jewry”, his mother being Luzzatti’s daughter.

Umberto Pugliese, also a Jew, has been appointed Major-General in the Italian Army.
