The word “treachery” has of late become a commonplace in our ranks, even veteran Zionists joining in the outcry whenever they disapprove of the policy of the leadership, Dr. Weizmann said somewhat bitterly to-day at the Jewish Agency headquarters here, in replying to an address of welcome presented to him by the Jewish Agency officials.
The poisoned atmosphere is more difficult to bear than the economic hardships caused by the non-payment of salaries, the spokesmen complained to Dr. Weizmann.
The atmosphere will soon be cleared and the Jews will again joyfully shoulder their duties, Dr. Weizmann assured them, declaring that he himself is prepared to help the Zionist Congress to make a thorough house-cleaning by eliminating himself from the leadership.
Dr. Weizmann had a conference afterwards with the members of the Executive of whom Dr. Ruppin, Colonel Kisch, Dr. Senator, Mr. Harry Sacher, Mr. Joseph Sprinzak and Dr. Barth were present.
Dr. Weizmann also had an interview of about an hour with the High Commissioner, Sir John chancellor, with whom Mrs. Weizmann and he had lunch.
During his interview with the High Commissioner, the J.T.A. understands, Dr. Weizmann touched on the questions of an understanding with the Arabs, the Hope Simpson development scheme and early immigration facilities.
This afternoon, Dr. Weizmann is having a conference with the Executive of the Histadruth (Palestine Labour Federation), and on Sunday he is visiting the colony of Beer Tuviah, which has been resbuilt after having been razed during the outbreak of August 1929.
