The Executive of the Jewish Agency in Palestine has made an application to the Palestine Government for 1,720 immigration certificates for the half-year October 1st., 1931 to April 1st., 1932, the J.T.A. learns.
The Jewish Agency Executive in making the application, points out that there has been a considerable improvement in the labour situation in Palestine in the last few months. An additional 10,000 dunam of organge groves were planted last year, and it is planned to plant another 4,500 dunam this year. One thousand additional Jewish workers obtained employment as a result of these additions to the area planted, and the Jewish plantations yielded last year 25 per cent. more fruit than in the previous year. Several Jewish colonies are already experiencing a shortage of labour, to meet which the Jewish Agency has asked for the 1,720 new immigration certificates. 650 of these will go to relatives of Palestine residents, and the remainder will go to Haluzim families.
