80th. Birthday of Isaac Dreyfus-strauss Leading Figure in Swiss Jewry

Mr. Isaac Dreyfus-Strauss, who was for many years President of the Jewish Community of Basle and is President of the Palestine Committee in Switzerland, celebrates to-day his 80th. birthday.

Mr. Dreyfus-Strauss is the head of the banking firm of Dreyfus, Sons and Company, and is one of the leaders of Swiss Jewry. He succeeded his kinsman, Samuel Dreyfus-Neumann as President of the Basle Jewish Community, and when he retired, he was succeeded by his cousin, Mr. J. Dreyfus-Brodsky, who is now President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Switzerland.

Mr. Dreyfus-Strauss has been particularly active in the promotion of Jewish religious life. He was one of the founders and is the head of the administration of the Basle Beth Hamidrash. He also founded and is President of the Pasle Jewish Orphanage and he was for many years President of the Basle Jewish Nursing Fund. About 25 years ago he started the movement resulting in the establishment of the Basle Jewish Hospital, of which he is President. His wife, Madame Dreyfus-Strauss has also played a prominent part in Jewish activities in Switzerland, and she has been for decades the President of the Jewish Women’s Organisation in Basle.
