Permission for povernment official to join the ranks of the National Socialists, hitherto prohibited, was granted today on the heels of the Hindenburg decree rescinding the state of martial law declared a week ago.

The rescinding of martial law restores independence of action to the Prussian police department.

At a press conference of the Central Union of German Citizens of the Jewish Faith, the question was asked whether the police force in Prussia, no longer under the control of the Social Democrats, can be relied upon in the event of Nazi riots.

Dr. Ludwig Hollaender, director of the Central Union, stated his belief that the police will act in consonance with the dictates of the government which is determined to maintain order and prevent outbreaks regardless of the party from which they originate.
