A belief is current in Jewish circles here that an official occupying a responsible position received instructions from the Central government to suppress the disturbances, but instead suppressed the instructions and remained neutral to the National Democrats who were leading the riots.
The reason given for the sympathy of the official to the National Democrats is that he wished to gain the sympathy of students and professors for an elevation from the post of lecturer to professor at Lwow University. Leaflets addressed to the police urging them to take no action to prevent the riots, were distributed here today.
The leaflets were not signed. In some circles, they are viewed as a Communist provocation, while others maintain they emanate from National Democratic headquarters, and are an effort to secure the co-operation of the police.
