Warsaw (Dec. 27)
Colonel Bernard Mond of Gracow will be appointed a Brigadier General in the New Year’s honors, it is forecast here today.
Colonel Mond will be the first Jew to be named to such high military rank, the Jewish press points out. While numerous Jewish converts to Christianity hold the highest posts in the army, this is the first time a professing Jew will be thus honored, the papers declare.
Funeral services were held on Monday for Samuel Schwartz, realtor, who died at the age of sixty-five.
Mr. Schwartz, who was a native of Jassy, Roumania, settled in New York in his youth. He was a director of the Menorah Home for the Aged and Infirm and of the Agudath Jewish Free Burial Association and of the First Roumanian Jewish Congregation.
