An active committee to aid the persecuted Jews of Germany has been formed by the Jewish community of Mount Vernon. The United Jewish Campaign Committee, which began its activities with a mass meeting on Sunday, April 23, is now engaged in active relief for Jews in Germany.
The executive committee includes Leo Mann, chairman; Samuel Bashlow, treasurer, and Theodore Charnas, Harry P. Fierst, Julius Klausner, Jr., Edgar A. Pollack, Charles Ress, Henry Y. Schooner, and Edward C. Weinrib. Isador Kadis is campaign director, Elliott Cohen is recording secretary, and Samuel B. Kaufman is executive secretary.
The campaign committee is also organized to aid the needy Jews of other European countries through the Joint Distribution Committee, to support the Jewish Agency for Palestine, the American Jewish Committee, and the American Jewish Congress.
A large sum of money for relief work was collected at the first meeting, which was addressed by Morris Rothenberg, Rabbi Elias Margolis, Dr. William Holmes, Superintendent of Mount Vernon schools; the Rev. Carl L, Weist of the Community Church, and others.
