Chicago (Jun. 22)
Harmony, shattered for a while when the question of Jewish demonstrations against Hitler caused a lively argument, was completely restored as delegates to the convention of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations renewed their approval of Ludwig Vogelstein’s presidential message.
Yesterday there were some protests by delegates who thought Mr. Vogelstein’s stand on demonstrations against Hitler was not strong enough. The committee on the president’s message, however, adopted the report, quieting the dissenters.
“Your chairman’s comment in his report upon the German situation might well and truthfully have warranted more violent and vehement denunciation”, the committee stated, “but the restrained and temperate language of the report has appealed to your committee as the wisest course.”
