The first book to be published from the Sisterhood Publication Fund of $4,500, which was set aside at the recent Convention of the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, in Chicago, will be “When the Jewish People Was Young” by Mordecai I. Soloff.
The fund was set aside for the publication of books to be used either by teachers or pupils in the Jewish Religious Schools. Mr. Soloff’s book is a history of the Jewish people from its beginnings to the time of the Babylonian exile. It is intended for children in the fifth grade of the religious schools and was written in Chicago, while the author was serving as supervisor for the Board of Jewish Education in that city.
The book emphasizes social and religious life rather than mere political and chronological events. The lessons are simple and the language concrete. The writer gives suggestions for additional readings, discussions, and dramatizations. It will be published shortly.
