The Maccabee sports organization submitted a claim for one hundred thousand lei as compensation for cancelling the Maccabiade, the Jewish Olympiade, which was supposed to have been held in Czernowitz and which the Roumanian Government forbade.

The municipality appointed a finance committee to investigate the claim, which has now been recognized as legitimate.

The Roumanian Government withdrew permission which had been granted to hold the Maccabiade, declaring that a plot on the part of the Roumanian anti-Semites to assassinate Lord Melchett had been discovered. Lord Melchett is honorary president of the Maccabee organization and was to have been guest of honor at the Maccabiade. The games will be held at Prague.
