Christmas passed off quietly everywhere in Germany. Even for the Jewish community, the holiday season was marked by a let-down in the campaign against them. Due to the very strong order issued recently by Minister of Economics Schmitt, pressure on the Jewish merchants was somewhat eased. Even uniformed officials could not resist the temptation to buy in the Jewish shops, where merchandise was cheaper than in stores owned by Aryans.
In Hesse, the Minister of Education of that state, ordered that no more free scholarships be given to Jewish pupils after January 1. A few days ago, the Prussian Ministry of Education made a similar ruling.
