In the next ten years 400,000 Jews from all over the world, including 100,000 from Germany, will emigrate to Palestine, Maurice Samuel, noted lecturer and publicist, stated at the opening tonight of the local drive for the United Jewish Appeal. More than 300 persons attended the meeting, which was held at the Temple Israel.
“This absorption,” Samuel declared, “will be an effective answer to Hitler’s vain, ridiculous boast that he would exterminate the Jewish race. Always in past times Jews have applied to other nations for aid, but today they have taken over the situation themselves by developing Palestine as a refuge and in 1933 the Holy Land absorbed over 38,000 Jews, more than all the other nations in the world put together. This development is providing physical relief for those in Palestine and spiritual and psychological relief for all other Jews.”
