The estate of Morton H. Meinhard, textile manufacturer and philanthropist, was appraised yesterday at $3,172,420 gross and $1,678,698 net. He died April 15, 1931.
Mrs. Carrie W. Meinhard, the widow, of 330 Park avenue, receives the personal and household effects and $100,000 a year as a first charge upon the estate.
As the next charge, $150,000 is left in trust to each of Mr. Meinhard’s four sisters. Many other bequests, including fourteen of $1,000 each to charitable institutions, will have to be cancelled because of insufficient assets.
On Mrs. Reinhard’s death $100,000 goes to the Hebrew Orphan Asylum after $687,500 has been paid in trust funds to various relatives and friends, the remainder will be set up as a permanent fund to establish and maintain the Carrie W. and Morton H. Meinhard Home for Convalescents.
The estate of Dr. Alexis V. Moschowitz, consulting surgeon to Mt. Sinai Hospital, was appraised yesterday at $417,328 gross and $363,359 net. He died on Dec. 21, 1933.
Dr. Moschowitz left the Mt. Sinai Hospital $2,500 in cash and his medical books, appraised at $525. The remainder is left in trust for the widow, Mrs. Milly L. Moschowitz of 725 Madison avenue.
A bequest of $5,000 to Mt. Sinai Hospital is among charitable gifts totalling $31,500 in the will of Leah J. Simpson, who died May 20, 1933. The estate was appraised at $271,345 gross and $253,477 net. Her brother and two sisters receive the residuary estate.
