Half the 1,200 new immigration permits that have just been issued to the Jewish Agency are for German immigrants and German refugees now in other countries.
The issuance of the certificates at this time marks the second occasion in the history of Palestine immigration that an addition to the midseason schedule has been granted. It is the first time that such a move has been made since Sir Herbert Samuel was commissioner.
It is understood here that the certificates intended for laborers are for work in the heavy industries, such as the cement work being done at the Dead Sea, and the Rutenberg and Nesher concessions, which have been suffering from an acute shortage of labor.
