For the second time the city commissioners have turned thumbs down on the plea of forty local kosher butchers that their business establishments be regulated by the commissioners for opening and closing hours. The fight has been backed by the Passaic Butchers and Poultry ssociation, of which Louis Goldman is president.
The fight for the city ordinance started a month ago when the first plea was made by the association. The members declared that because of one or two Jewish butchers in the city all the butchers were required to open at six in the morning and close at midnight. This, Goldman said, was impairing the health of the members of the association.
The city commissioners have refused the ordinance.
