A thoroughly anti-Semitic German-American Independent Voters’ League will stage another inflammatory rally tomorrow night in the Broadway Astoria Hall, 3208 Broadway, Astoria, L. I.
The racial issue will be the main political stock in trade of the League in the coming election.
Louis Zahne, chairman of the League, let the cat out of the bag at a meeting the other night in the Yorkville Turnhalle when he didn’t know a reporter was present to hear the meow.
REPORTER THROWN OUT
Subsequently the reporter was evicted from the hall when he found it necessary to fortify his memory by taking notes. A burly storm trooper demanded that the reporter produce authorization from the chairman, and when the scribe could not oblige, he found himself out in the cold Yorkville street.
But not before he heard Royal Scott Gulden, Zahne and lesser known anti-Semitic dignitaries incite the 800 German-Americans against the Jewish people.
“We should care if we are accused of bringing up a racial issue,” were the signicant words of Zahne. “It is a racial issue. Real men and women will admit that it is a racial issue.
“We will be branded as Nazis,” he continued. “Well, what of it? Let us be good American Nazis.” This met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
MUST ORGANIZE TO FIGHT
“Our chief duty,” he said at another point, “is to organize a political body to militantly fight for our rights. Then I dare any representative of the Asiatic race to make an attack on us as they have been doing for the last eighteen months.”
He promised action against “that Asiatic race” similar to the measures taken by Hitler in Germany. “And let him set up the same cry of persecution!” the Nazi leader thundered.
He explained to his applauding auditors that “there is a combat between the Western Christian and the Oriental philosophy.
“All our institutions are Christian,” he declared, “and it is the duty of Gentile races to defend American civilization. In New York they defy our institutions with a smirk on their faces because they are so many.”
Later on he declared:
“We are here as the representatives of an intellectual people. We study the situation and take action. But we always reserve the right to have a feeling of loyalty to our race.
PROGRAM CALLED FAR-SIGHTED
“We have a program which looks ahead twenty years. We are going to have a school and every facility for information.
“Boys with special talent for the profession must study and practice them—it is high time a few Christians were added to the professions.
“It is a great favor to us that we have been attacked. A certain group of Oriental gentlemen—the so-called chosen people of God—had a meeting some months ago.
“When the question of attacking the Germans came up, someone asked whether it was advisable, and he was answered, ‘They are too dumb and cowardly to do anything.’
“WE’LL SHOW THEM”
“We’ll show them whether we are too dumb and cowardly to do anything.”
Zahne announced that he was leaving that night for a tour of the middle west to organize a #eague branch in every large city. Paul Lefton was presented as temporary chairman of the League.
“The NRA is a Soviet set-up,” charged Royal Scott Gulden, head of the anti-Semitic Order of ’76 and independent candidate for Congress from the Sixteenth A.D. “It was slipped over on us under the guise of a new deal.
“Our money is in the hands of people who can’t speak English without a Yiddish accent.”
The reporter was unceremoniously obliged to depart just as Gulden began to appeal to the Germans for votes and tell what he would do about the Jewish government when he got into power.
SCHOOLBOY HITS SCHOOL
A bitter attack on the Jewish people which Zahne declared delighted his heart was delivered by Walter Neimann, introduced as a seventeen-year-old German who is now studying in an American high school.
