In response to a cabled appeal from Poland for support, the Women’s American ORT yesterday voted to create an emergency fund of $5,000 to enable Jewish artisans in Poland to secure government diplomas entitling them to continue working at their trades and crafts.

According to a law passed in Poland, artisans who do not possess government diplomas by January, 1935, will no longer be permitted to work at their trades.

A fee of $8.50 is charged for the diplomas. Few of the 20,000 Jewish artisans in Poland are able to pay the fee. Polish Jewish groups will raise funds for half of the Jewish artisans.
