Reich Cruelty ‘moonshine’ to Publisher

While practically the entire English press, including the usually conservative London Times, describes in detail the picketing of Jewish shops in Southern and Western Germany, particularly at Frankfurt-am Main and Darmstadt, the London Daily Mail today features an article by Lord Rothermere, publisher of the paper, calling stories of Jewish persecution “moonshine.”

Lord Rothermere, who has just returned from a visit to Germany, declares that “nearly all news about the Nazi regime, even the news published by our most responsible papers, is pure moonshine. For instance, our press has spread the impression that German Jews lead an almost hunted existence; yet in German hotels and restaurants I have frequently seen merry and festive Jewish groups who showed no symptoms of insecurity and suffering.”
