Rabbi Joseph Zeitlin in his sermon at Temple Ansche Chesed, 100th street and West End avenue, deprecated too much zeal in the prosecution of persons suspected of crime.
“There must be a harmonization of justice with clemency,” he said.
Declaring that usually the popular mind is either extremely bitter against the alleged criminal or else, carried away by compassion, becomes totally oblivious of the crime that has been perpetrated, Rabbi Zeitlin maintained the excessive view in either direction is “unfortunate and dangerous.”
