A new Zionist district pledging itself “to complete cooperation with Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver in his effort to create a spirit of honest Zionism in this city” was called into existence here at an overflow Zionist meeting at Mahler Hall and attended by more than 1,200 persons.
The organization of this new Zionist unit is a result of the split in the Zionist movement in Cleveland. More than four hundred members have already been registered in the new organization.
THE RESOLUTION
The meeting, which was presided ever by Samuel Katz and addressed by a number of speakers, adopted the following resolution:
“It is the sentiment of this organization that as the outstanding leader of advanced Jewish thought in this community, as the consistently sincere and outspoken advocate of progressive Zionist policies and the widespread dissemination of those policies throughout the American Jewish Scene, Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver has carved for himself a place in the affections of Cleveland Jewry which has no counterpart in the history of this City;
“This organization, dedicating itself to the active promotion of the noblest ideals of Zionism and the permanent effort to inculcate those ideals into the minds and souls of American Jewish youth, pledges itself to complete cooperation with Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver in his effort to create a spirit of honest Zionism, rising above all partisan bias, in this community.
“We repudiate the unauthorized action of those who claimed to speak for the Zionists of Cleveland in their affront to Rabbi Silver and we pledge our loyalty to the devoted and spiritual leadership of Rabbi Silver in the community and the nation.”
