Commenting on the situation in Austria, Johannes Steel writes in the New York Post:
The clerical Fascism that is holding Austria in a firm grip is not much better than the Nazi Fascism rampant in Germany.
The only difference is that in Austria Fascism has taken on a somewhat subtler form.
There may be no persecution of Jews, but there are no Jews left in official positions — they have lost their jobs in the civil service, in the hospitals, and in the courts.
It all has been done very quietly without even bothering to establish the principle of “Aryan” superiority, but it has been done effectively.
SCIENTIST SEES JEWS MORE NORMAL IN SEX
The fact that Jews live a more normal sexual life than other peoples is brought out in the scientific works of Dr. William Stekel, just published in London. The New English Weekly, commenting, says:
Among other fascinating problems, Stekel probes that of the lower incidence of fetishism among women and Jews. And he suggests that while both have a specific obstacle in the “Christ neurosis” in these cases — the self-identification of the fetishist with Christ—in women there is the further difficulty of the construction of a fetishism; i. e., lacking the creative capacity of men, they are unable to display the symbolistic genius which the fetishist has, by virtue of his neurosis, to display. In all his material Stekel has not come across one female fetishist, and the only Jew fetishist was an uncircumcized Jew with Christian leanings.
NAZI OUTBREAK IN AUSTRALIA SURPRISES
The London Daily Telegraph, commenting editorially upon the outbreak of anti-Jewish propaganda in Australia, says:
The outbreak of anti-Jewish propaganda in the Victorian election campaign is surprising in a country where equality of citizenship has long been undisputed.
A Jew, Sir Isaac Isaacs, holds the highest office in the Commonwealth. Sir John Monash, generally considered Australia’s greatest soldier, was also a Jew.
The disturbance follows in the wake of the irrepressible Herr Egon Kisch, a Jewish Communist exiled from Germany, who has so far successfully resisted the efforts of the Australian government to deport him.
SEES WELFARE BOARD INCREASINGLY VITAL
The Jewish Layman, organ of the Temple Brotherhood, in an article on the Jewish National Welfare Board, by Harry L. Glucksman, says:
Among the national movements that have effected Jewish life in recent times, the National Jewish Welfare Board, and the chain of Jewish centers which it serves, has achieved increasing significance. Created when the United States entered the World War as the agency of the Jewish community for welfare work among the men of Jewish faith who responded to the call of service in the cause of their country, the board conducted an emergency program of vast proportions in this country and overseas. Its record revealed its potentialities for more permanent work in the field of Jewish community organization and its special understanding of the problem of Jewish youth.
It was perhaps natural, therefore, that the group of Y. M. H. A.’s, Y. W. H. A.’s and other types of Jewish centers in, existence, when the war emergency terminated, should turn to the Jewish Welfare Board to function as their national body.
