A six-hour strike of all merchants in Jerusalem was officially proclaimed today for Monday, in protest against the refusal of the government to restrict rentals in Jerusalem as is done in Tel Aviv.

The merchants here claim that the rentals are too high and should be regulated by the government in order to avoid demands for increased rents by the landlords. The government, however, has so far refused to comply with the request of the merchants, despite numerous memoranda submitted by them.

During the strike all merchants, Jewish, Christian and Moslem, will keep their stores closed, with the exception of those who own the premises in which their stores are located.
