The largest bail ever demanded in Germany, 1,200,000 marks (about $480,000) was furnished by Sigmund Wasserman, prominent German-Jewish banker, to obtain release from jail, where he was being held on a charge of violating currency regulations, it was learned today.
Wasserman was released yesterday after having been held two weeks. His arrest is said to have been in line with a drive against Jewish bankers forecast by Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels’ newspaper, Der Angriff.
