Trial of Dr. Hans Wesemann, Nazi agent, on charges of having abducted Berthold Jacob last year and turning him over to the Nazi authorities, will open on May 4 in Basle. Technically, Dr. Wesemann will be tried for depriving Jacob, German-Jewish refugee, of his freedom, since abduction is not an indictable offense in Basle. If convicted of having been responsible for the journalist’s imprisonment by the Nazis for more than one week, the Nazi agent faces a maximum sentence of eight years and a minimum term of six months.
