Military forces in Palestine today comprised, in addition to the two battalions of British troops which usually garrison the Holy Land, additional infantry forces, one tank corps and a contingent of armored cars.
High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope explained in a radio address that he had requested the military reinforcements, firstly, to be able to deal rapidly with disturbances if they arose, and secondly, to afford settlements greater protection against arson.
Revealing that since the disturbances began 600 persons have been arrested, the High Commissioner said:
“I wish lawbreakers to know that the Government will suppress all outbreaks and lawlessness and punish the perpetrators. Every one can rely on the Government’s taking measures to protect person and property.”
