The authorities today issued new regulations easing immigration restrictions.
The regulations are in three categories: 1) Immigrants having relatives in Australia require no money for admission. 2) Immigrants having no relatives but with friends in the country able and willing to guarantee their livelihood, must possess fifty pounds (about $200). 3) Those without relatives or friends must have 200 pounds (about $1,000) to be admitted.
In each case, the immigrant must receive a permit from the Department of the Interior and must have good character and health.
Previous regulations made possession of $2,500 a requisite to admission.
