Police today served notice on 150 Jewish families of Turkish nationality to leave the country unless they can present documents establishing their nationality.
The Turkish Consulate refuses to furnish the families certificates of citizenship or documents attesting the willingness of the Turkish Government to permit them to acquire Bulgarian citizenship.
If the latter documents were forthcoming, Bulgaria would accept the Jews as Bulgarian subjects. One of the Jews involved has addressed a personal plea to Mustapha Kemal Ataturk, president of Turkey, revealing the group’s desperate position and urging his personal intervention.
