THE ARCHBISHOP AND THE MAYOR OF CASTORIA TODAY RECEIVED BUCO DE MAYO, OF NEW YORK, WHO ANNOUNCED HE WAS CONTRIBUTING 150,000 DRACHMAS TO VARIOUS NON-JEWISH CHARITIES. MR. MAYO, WHO IS HONORARY PRESIDENT OF THE CASTORIA CHESSED VA’EMETH SOCIETY, JEWISH CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION, ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT THE SOCIETY WAS CONTRIBUTING 10,000 DRACHMAS TO THE CASTORIA MUNICIPAL HOSPITAL.

IN THANKING HIM, THE ARCHBISHOP PRAISED JEWISH CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS. ” YOU JEWS HAVE TAUGHT THE WORLD THE MEANING OF CHARITY,” HE SAID. A WARD IN THE MUNICIPAL HOSPITAL WAS NAMED AFTER MR. MAYO.
