RUMORS THAT THE GRAND MUFTI OF PALESTINE HAD BEEN ARRESTED OR WAS ABOUT TO BE ARRESTED, TONIGHT SWEPT THROUGH THIS CITY, BUT WERE DENIED IN SEMI-OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT CIRCLES.

IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT SUBHI AL KHADRA, MANAGER OF THE OFFICE OF THE ARAB EXECUTIVE, WOULD BE TRIED FOR REBELLION IN UPPER GALILEE. KHADRA HAS CLASHED WITH BRITISH AUTHORITY BEFORE, WHEN, IN 1930, HE WAS EXILED FROM JERUSALEM FOR A YEAR TO SAFAD, IN THE GALILEE REGION, AS A “DANGEROUS PERSON” FOR HIS PART IN FOMENTING THE 1929 ARAB RIOTS.

MEMBERS OF THE ARAB BLACK-HAND, TODAY SHOT TO DEATH TWO ARABS ALLEGEDLY BECAUSE THEY HAD ACTED AS AGENTS IN THE SALE OF LAND TO JEWS. ONE OF THE KILLINGS TOOK PLACE IN HAIFA, THE OTHER IN JAFFA. A VALISE CONTAINING WEAPONS AND MANY ROUNDS OF ITALIAN-MADE AMMUNITION WAS DISCOVERED IN THE HAIFA PORT AREA. POLICE ARE HUNTING ITS OWNER.
