Jew Killed, 2 Wounded in Jerusalem; Troops Hunt Bands Near Nablus

ONE JEW WAS KILLED TODAY AND TWO WERE WOUNDED, ONE OF THEM SERIOUSLY, WHILE RETURNING FROM PRAYERS AT THE WAILING WALL. UNOFFICIAL CURFEW WAS IMMEDIATELY IMPOSED IN THE OLD CITY QUARTER OF JERUSALEM.

ALAN ALKAZITZ, 32 YEARS OLD AND A NATIVE OF PALESTINE, WAS KILLED. SHLOMO ROSENZWEIG, 23, WAS SERIOUSLY WOUNDED, AND GUTMAN RABINOWITZ, 25, WAS SLIGHTLY INJURED. THE ATTACK OCCURRED AT THE PLACE WHERE RABBI ELIEZER GERSTEIN WAS FATALLY SHOT SEPT. 3 UNDER SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES. A COLLECTIVE FINE WAS IMPOSED ON THE OLD CITY TO MAINTAIN TWENTY ADDITIONAL CONSTABLES.

THE AUTHORITIES, MEANWHILE, APPLIED NEW RIGOROUS MEASURES TO SUPPRESS ARAB TERRORISM, DISPATCHING 3,000 BRITISH TROOPS TO THE BRIGAND-INFESTED NABLUS AREA TO CONDUCT INTENSIVE SEARCHES FOR ARAB BANDS BELIEVED TO BE CONCENTRATED THERE.
