A DEMAND THAT ARNOLD BERNSTEIN BE IMPRISONED FOR FIVE YEARS AND FINED 4,000,000 MARKS (ABOUT $1,600,000) WAS LODGED BY THE PROSECUTION TODAY AT THE TRIAL OF THE GERMAN JEWISH SHIPPING MAGNATE.

THE PROSECUTOR, WHO ASKED THE SENTENCE BE COUPLED WITH FIVE YEARS’ LOSS OF CIVIL RIGHTS, ALSO CALLED FOR SEVERE SENTENCES FOR OTHER OFFICIALS OF THE RED STAR LINE, OF WHICH BERNSTEIN IS THE NOMINAL HEAD.

THE SPECIAL COURT WHICH HAS BEEN TRYING BERNSTEIN SINCE NOV. 15 IS EXPECTED TO PASS JUDGMENT ON DEC. 23.
