Rome Warns Britain on Arabic Broadcasts

BRITISH PLANS TO BROADCAST FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROGRAMS AS AN ANTIDOTE TO ITALY’S ALLEGED ANTI-BRITISH RADIO PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN BROUGHT FORTH A WARNING FROM VIRGINIO GAYDA, AUTHORITATIVE FASCIST SPOKESMAN, IN THE GIORNALE D’ITALIA TODAY.

THE SPOKESMAN SAID THAT THE BROADCASTS, WHICH WILL BEGIN NEXT MONDAY, WILL BE FOLLOWED WITH THE CLOSEST ATTENTION BY ITALY. ROME WILL KNOW HOW TO RETALIATE FOR THESE PROGRAMS SHOULD THEY ASSUME A “PROVOCATIVE AND DISTURBING TENOR,” GAYDA WARNED. “BRITAIN IS TAKING THE INITIATIVE AGAINST ITALY IN THIS ATTACK,” HE ADDED.

DECLARING THAT A BRITISH NEWSPAPER HAD DESCRIBED THESE BROADCASTS AS THE “FIRST COUNTER ATTACK” AGAINST ITALY, GAYDA SAID THE BARI STATION DID NOT SPREAD ANTI-BRITISH PROPAGANDA, CONTRARY TO CHARGES BY FOREIGN SECRETARY ANTHONY EDEN.
