Boycott activities against Jews were intensified in provincial cities today with the approach of the Easter shopping season. In cities such as Plock and Czestochowa, pickets blocked entrances to Jewish shops, barring admittance to prospective customers.
Kosher slaughtering, under nationwide partial proscription since 1936, has been completely banned in a number of cities which recently were transferred from the Lodz and Warsaw provinces to the provinces of Pommern and Poznan. The Governors of Pommern and Poznan explained the prohibition was enacted under a provision of the 1936 law which states kosher slaughtering may be entirely forbidden in provinces having less than three per cent Jewish population. Among cities affected are Kalisz, Wloclawek, Kolo and Slupco.
Nationalists attacked Jewish students at the Polytechnic Institute, seriously wounding one and injuring many others. The attack was precipitated by action of the Democratic Students Union in joining forces with the Jewish students.
