The Maccabiade, Palestinian “Olympic games,” opened in the Stadium here today with a parade of 3,000 athletes before a cheering crowd of thousands. District Commissioner Robert F.H. Crosbie, in an address, declared that the Maccabi, Jewish sports organization, like everything else in Palestine, was growing. He concluded his speech with the Hebrew words, “Chazak ve-ematz!” (Be strong and have courage!)
