Z.O.A. Gets State Department Notice on Registration of Alien Propagandists

The Zionist Organization of America, it was learned today, has received from the State department a letter and booklet such as are being sent to organizations believed to come under the act requiring registration of persons engaged in propaganda or other activities for political purposes on behalf of foreign principles. The matter has been turned over to a lawyer for advice, according to Morris Margulies, secretary of the Z.O.A.

The law went into effect yesterday, at which time the State Department issued regulations requiring registration within 30 days. The act applies to persons and organizations in this country for foreign governments, parties or persons. The law is the outgrowth of an investigation into un-American activities conducted by a special house committee in 1934. It was passed at the last session of Congress and was approved by President Roosevelt on June 8.
