Lord Londonderry, recognized as one of Germany’s best friends in Britain, came out today in strong criticism of Berlin’s racial policies and warned the Reich that Britain would not sacrifice an “inch of territory” to satisfy Chancellor Hitler’s colonial demands. He decried Germany’s anti-Jewish drive, “which appears to us to be so medieval in ferocity” as to be unjustified.

Lord Londonderry declared of the colonial question: “It is said to be the new item of Hitler’s program. We are determined not to sacrifice one individual or one inch of territory, and we will accept with its full implications any challenge to that policy. I believe this should be said in no uncertain terms, but I am not thinking that it will be necessary to take any drastic steps in relation to it. At this time we could not in any circumstances hand over any populations which lead to us for protection and guidance to the tender mercies of any country who seems disposed either to exterminate a section of its population or allow them to live in conditions of such a barbarous character as call for their condemnation by every right-minded man or woman throughout the civilized world.”
