The authorities, giving no reason, have dissolved the Jewish community council and have appointed a commissar to control the affairs of the community, it was disclosed today.

The Jewish population of Bukowina province is alarmed by the registration of Jewish properties being carried out in all villages. It is feared that this is a preliminary step to confiscation of the land in view of the possibility that the provision of the new constitution that “only Rumanians are entitled to landed property” may be interpreted as excluding Jews from land ownership.

More than 1,100 Jewish families in Bukowina who were deprived of livelihood when licenses of innkeepers and tobacconists were cancelled have decided to send a petition to King carol pointing out that most of the license holders are disabled veterans and widows of war dead.
