Many American Jews of Polish origin “will be ready to give not only financial and moral support but also their very lives” to preserve Poland’s independence, the Federation of Polish Jews in America declared today in a telegram to Polish Ambassador Count Potocki in Washington.

The telegram, signed by Benjamin Winter, president, and Z. Tygel, executive director of the Federation follows:

“In this critical moment of European history when Poland is faced with the imminent possibility of having to defend its integrity, we in the name of the Federation of Polish Jews in America, do go on record again with the wholehearted assurance of our deep concern for the safety of the Polish Republic and we respectfully request Your Excellency to convey to your Government at Warsaw our readiness to aid in this emergency which threatens the independence of Poland.

“We pray and hope that war will still be averted. Should, however, the hour arrive and Poland be attacked, we pledge ourselves to help in whatever way possible. Being American citizens, we are aware that all Jews of Polish origin are deeply concerned that Polish independence be maintained. You may rest assured they will support the just cause of the Polish Republic which is upheld by the entire democratic, enlightened world and many of them will be ready to give not only financial and moral support, but also their very lives.”
