Jewish quarters of Salonica and the island town of Corfu were among the objectives bombed by Italian aviators, it was reported.
The Jewish quarter of Salonica — the port city which contains the great majority of Greece’s more than 70,000 Jews–was bombed, although it contained no possible military objectives, according to an account given by Louis Reiner, of Chicago, who came here from the beleaguered city. “Many were killed in the narrow streets terraced on the hillside. At least one synagogue was hit.”
One bomb landed near a Jewish school which was being used as an internment center for Italians.
It was officially stated that the Jewish section of Corfu, chief city of the island of the same name, was one of the places bombed by Fascist planes. Several persons were reported dead and injured.
