A delegation of refugees detained in Caxias prison here for overstaying their permission to remain in Portugal visited the American Joint Distribution Committee here today under a police guard and appealed to Morris Troper, chairman of the European Council of the J.D.C. for help to facilitate their emigration. One of the delegation has been under detention for thirteen months.
Arrangements are being made in each case to ascertain the possibilities of obtaining visas. The delegation said that the imprisoned refugees are being well treated and that the police is affording them every possible assistance. They are permitted to leave their detention quarters under escort to visit consulates and the offices of relief committees.
